When I first heard about this, the only thing I cared about was "OH WOW. SUPERMAN AND CAPTAIN MARVEL, HELL YES." Then when I got a chance to see the whole thing for myself, I got a nice surprise in the other three films featured. They're well animated, with great voicing, and compelling plots. I was surprised at the death scenes in
The Spectre, and the gruesome corpse-filled mine shaft in
Jonah Hex. But my biggest surprise came from the action-packed
Green Arrow, undoubtedly my favorite of the collection. Watching Ollie go against Merlin was a great spectacle that really showed you what The Emerald Archer is capable of. And in
Superman/Shazam!, the use of Arnold Vosloo as Black Adam and Jerry O'Connel as Captain Marvel was both unexpected and downright PERFECT. O'Connel has that sort of old-fashioned, innocent kind of voice that really fits the Cap, and the lesson about being good no matter how bad things get was touching.
All in all, gotta say, I think that the DC Showcase Collection deserves it's 9/10 Rating.
