How I'm Celebrating For The Holidays

The Christmas Season has never really gone well for me. As much as I love the idea of Christmas, it doesn't change the fact that every holiday season turns to total crap. School didn't exactly end on a high note, and I'm having a few family issues. I've taken to burying myself in comic books, refamiliarizing myself with the characters and stories that got me into my chosen career path. I just finished reading Marc Guggenheim's run on The Flash, where Bart Allen, formerly known as Impulse/Kid Flash, takes up the mantle of The Scarlet Speedster. It was a really great take on the Flash mythos, and gave such a fantastic look into the aftermath of Superboy Prime's rampage. I won't get into any spoilers, but let's just say that the ending was a tragic slice of brilliance. But it's the DCU. Tragedy never lasts forever ;)

I also got a chance to read JMS's Superman: Earth One graphic novel, and I LOVED IT. I wasn't exactly the world's biggest fan of Shane Davis' artwork in some of the scenes, but he had a great take on making The Daily Planet, and even Supe's costume, a little more modernized. It was amazingly well written, and it gets me beyond excited for Batman: Earth One (I love Gary Frank's artwork <3).

Like I said, the holidays aren't really a big deal for me. It just means family stress, hard nights at work, and plenty of time to reflect on what I could and should have done better in the year previous. Comics are my escape, as they always have. If Christmas worked like it did in comics or cartoons, it'd be my absolute favorite holiday. But as it is, I'm just not much for holidays anymore.
