Back to school again, and I'm thinking about switching my major around.
I still want to be an art major, don't get me wrong- I really don't think I'm much suited for anything else, save for maybe writing. But instead of being a Graphic Arts major, maybe switching around to Fine Art with an emphasis on Illustration. May be tack on a minor in journalism to go with it (I've always had an interest, what can I say?). All I know is, I'm better at Graphic Art. But it isn't what I want to do. After college, I'd like to see about getting hired somewhere as a storyboard artist to start out, and eventually make my way to a position as a character designer. It's the most specific career plan I've been able to come up with in my life- before now, it's always just been "I want to get into animation." Well, now I can say that I know what part of animation I want to get into.
Oh, and I got fired at my job at the bar. At least I can say that this wasn't something I did wrong. My boss didn't put me on the schedule on New Year's Eve, so I went to a party instead. Then, after, he chewed my ass for not going in to work, which led to a heated argument between he and I before he canned me. Apparently, I'm supposed to just assume I work, even if I'm not written down on the schedule. I'm not exactly sure why it's so hard to put one more name down on a schedule, when there are less than ten people who work there, but who knows. Maybe his hand got a cramp when he was typing it. Still, since I'm living on the family farm, I really don't have much in the way of finances to worry about, anyway. My dad has agreed to pay my phone bill for the next year, since last semester I loaned him $1000 to help him get my little brother's car fixed. So that'll be nice.
Also, I didn't get into the animation class I wanted to this semester. Because, apparently, it got canceled. I have no idea why, but the reigning theory is that not enough students enrolled in it. I'm pretty disappointed, but it does leave my class schedule a lot less cluttered. I'm down to only 13 credit hours, no classes earlier than 10:00 am. In fact, with the exception of Art History I, it looks like most of this semester will be smooth sailing. I just hope I can up the ante on my GPA.
